On Inauguration Day, just as the new president was about to take the oath of office, I switched off my car radio and entered a wonderful new healing center down the road from my new home. I visited the center this day because my dear yoga teacher, Marla, had invited me to experience her unique style of energy healing. She uses a combination of reiki and other techniques from her spiritual toolbox.
Reiki, if you don’t know, is an ancient form of energy healing. The idea is to activate the natural healing process to help alleviate ailments. Reiki helps calm the nervous system and may help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. It can help with stress-related issues like insomnia and pain as well.
I’d had one other experience with reiki where the practitioner did not physically touch me during the treatment. Marla used a form of light touch that was a bit different and especially calming. The physical sensation of her hands on my body helped me tune into myself and slow my breathing.
Reiki and Sat Nam Rasayan
After the session, Marla explained her blended form of healing. She combines reiki with her training in Sat Nam Rasayan.
What is Sat Nam Rasayan, I wondered? Marla explained, but I did a quick search on the topic to learn more. I didn’t find much. That’s because, it turns out, not many people practice this “soul to soul” form of healing!
If you’ve ever practiced Kundalini yoga, you’ve likely heard the term sat nam. It means truth is your name. According to one source, Sat Nam Rasayan means deep relaxation in the true identity. A Sat Nam Rasayan practitioner enters a deep meditative state to pick up on energy blocks in the receiver’s body.
Sat Nam Rasayan healers spend a lot of time learning and experiencing the technique. Marla explained it as connecting souls rather than manipulating energy fields. She began this intense and relaxing healing by chanting a Kundalini mantra.
I can’t say I know exactly what kind of spiritual magic she worked, but I left feeling blissful and cared for. I think that’s what’s so special about these forms of healing—reiki, Sat Nam Rasayan, and others—they work because of the relationship between the healer and person receiving the healing.
Positive Effects of Energy Healing
When I went home that afternoon, my energy was noticeably higher for a good amount of time. I was able to work with focus for the rest of the day, a blessing since I needed to catch up on after a recent move.
Sometimes healing sessions seem like a luxury, perhaps because in a financial sense, they usually are. But even if you don’t have the means to work with a skilled healer on a regular basis, I highly recommend trying it even once if you can.
For me, glimpses into the work of healers helps offset the drain of feeling cut off from a sometimes crazy world. It’s comforting to know there are beautiful souls who spend their time working to help us connect with each other and become aware of our own power to heal. In the right company, we can more easily connect with the true beauty of the Universe.
